SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A report of two 12-year-old girls being shot during an attempted armed robbery turned out to be false, the Savannah Police Department said Friday.

They’re now looking for a man wanted in connection to the case.

SPD’s investigation revealed that the shooting on Oct. 9 was accidental. A gun was fired and the girls were injured, but police say one of them accidentally fired a gun at a residence.

Both received non-life-threatening injuries and have since been discharged from a hospital.

The initial report suggested the girls were with an adult relative at Hitch Park when two teens attempted to rob the adult. It was reported that one of the suspects fired shots and hit both of the girls.

The reports were unfounded.

SPD has issued warrants for Michael Pruitt, 39, on felony false statements and misdemeanor obstruction in connection to this case.

Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact detectives at 912-525-3124 or CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.
