Traffic is a major issue on Hilton Head, especially when it comes to getting to and from the beach.
But a new service on the island hopes to make that trip a breeze.
“The Breeze” is a new trolley service running from Shelter Cove to Coligny Beach and back, with a few stops in between.
The two trolleys operate seven days a week from 9 am to 7 pm, except for Tuesday evenings, when it will run until 10 pm to accommodate the fireworks at Shelter Cove.
The trolleys which have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and bike racks will run through October 14, with plans to open back up in March.
Each one can hold up to 30 people.
Now until the end of July, beachgoers can ride the trolley for free. Then the cost is $1 each way.
There are two trolleys right now that travel a single route. Next year, leaders hope to expand that route and add a third trolley.
This new trolley service is funded by the Federal Transit Administration and the Town of Hilton Head Island.
