Founder’s Day of Caring: WSAV volunteers at Second Harvest

Community

From sales to news to engineering, WSAV employees were out in full force for ‘Founder’s Day of Caring’ on Friday.

Not only was it a day to give back locally, but a day to celebrate our company.

WSAV is a proud member of Nexstar Media. On this day, Nexstar employees around the nation are celebrating the company’s anniversary by helping out our communities.

Our team partnered with America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to bag meals for their Summer Feeding program.

The program works to feed local kids in the summer months when school is out.
WSAV volunteers helped package 3,440 breakfast bags to be distributed across the Coastal Empire.

It’s a project that’s near and dear to many here.

“I’m a native Savannah girl,” said Coastal Sunrise Anchor Kim Gusby. “The community helped to mold me so it’s always a good feeling to give back that helped changed your life and this will change the lives of so many young people in our area.”

The Second Harvest food bank is always looking for more volunteers.

“Come in, just wear closed toed shoes. They can just show up and we will put them to work,” said Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director at Second Harvest.

The food bank is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

No registration or sign-up is necessary, but if you will volunteer with a group of 10 or more, they need you to call ahead (912-721-1795).
