Lee Haywood is the weekend evening meteorologist with WSAV in Savannah, Georgia. Lee has been with WSAV for close to 18 years and loves the station and its people. He arrived in early February of 2000 and worked weekend weather for 5 years. In 2005, he moved to morning weather on Coastal Sunrise and worked the AM show for over a decade. In 2016, he moved back to evening side weather.

Lee now is the longest running TV meteorologist in the Savannah market. He has covered several major tornado outbreaks, lots of tropical storms, and has had a few brushes with hurricanes — including hurricane Matthew in October 2016 and hurricane Irma in September 2017.

He is also an instructor of meteorology at Armstrong State University. Lee has taught at ASU for over 16 years now. He teaches meteorology two days a week.

Lee began his career in January 1999 after graduating with a degree in Atmospheric Sciences (meteorology) at UNC-Asheville (Dec 1998). He started at KIMT in Mason City Iowa and worked for a year before arriving in Savannah. He was an official weather intern for over a year and a half at WLOS-TV in Asheville NC before finishing his schooling at UNCA.

Lee has been fascinated with weather since he was a little boy growing up in Virginia. A tornado went through the fields of the farm he grew up on that turned the tide for him. He read everything he could find on weather, set up his own weather instruments and made observations. By high school, he was volunteering at TV stations and the National Weather Service, creating computer programs to forecast the weather and writing zone forecasts for the weather in Virginia. This is a natural progression for someone whose love and passion is the weather.

Lee resides on the south side of Savannah. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching movies and strolling the beautiful squares and downtown of Savannah. He also loves all sports — and is a huge Atlanta Braves, Boston Celtics and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Lee holds the television seal of the National Weather Association.
