Making the cross-country trip to live in Savannah wasn’t a difficult decision. Ben already had a love and appreciation for our special corner of the country thanks to his family’s annual vacations to Tybee Island.
Ben brings significant and varied experience to the WSAV News 3 Team. His more than 15 years as a journalist began with a brief stint behind-the-scenes as a news writer in Minneapolis followed by his first on-air job reporting in Duluth, Minnesota.
In 2002, Ben’s love affair with the south started and his career took off. For the next eight years, he worked as an anchor and reporter in Nashville and Knoxville, Tenn., and Winston-Salem, N.C. Nearly five years as an anchor/reporter in the highly competitive news environment of Portland, Oregon, the nation’s twenty-third largest market, rounds out the professional experience which now benefits the viewers of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.
As a father of two, Ben is passionate about education issues. He’s also grateful to live in an area with such a rich military tradition. He embedded with the 101st Airborne in Kuwait leading up to the Iraq war and considers it the most rewarding assignment of his career.
A Minnesota native, Ben grew up in East Grand Forks, Minn. He attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, where he graduated with a business major and a journalism minor.
Ben and his wife, Alisha, spend their free time exploring the local food scene and the great outdoors – with their two sons and two mutts in tow.
