St. James & Blessed Sacrament Face ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

SAVANNAH, GA -

Thousands of people around the country are connecting to strike out ALS also or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease - ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Tonight - how young people in savannah are pouring their hearts into a national effort to raise awareness.

Thinking, memory and muscle power is good for the lady chargers 7th grade Volleyball Team at St. James Catholic School.

Realizing that's not the case for people living with ALS they're stepping up in a big way.

"We are wanting to raise awareness for ALS and we have decided to challenge the varsity team at Blessed Sacrament School in Savannah, Georgia. 

Hope you guys can keep up. Yeah Blessed Sacrament.  Go Chargers!"

The Ice Bucket Challenge dares people to pour ice water over their head and challenge others or donate money to ALS.

Thankful for good working arms and legs BSS Lady Irish 7th grade Volleyball Team is gamed to be showered with ice cold water.

"Accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge from St. James.   We nominate the BSS Varsity Football Team to complete this challenge."

Proud to watch the Lady Irish help spike ALS, Dr. Gilmore MacGregor with Savannah Neurology Specialists cheered them on.

This is a very important Neurological disease where patients suffer quite a bit.  And the greatest hope for finding a cure is in raising awareness to help fund more research efforts to look for a cure."

Drawing attention to ALS is a good education. 

"ALS patients are uniformly wonderful people.  That is something that anyone who takes care of ALS patients will also agree with."  

"Everyday is a blessing everyday is a gift and we should all be grateful for our health those of us who have it."

St. James goal is to raise $1,000 in a week to donate to the ALS Association.

They have challenged blessed sacrament is raise the same amount.

The Ice Bucket Challenge is bringing in big money.

The ALS Association national office reported collecting $5.5 million in donations since July 29th, compared with $32,000 the same time last year.
