JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Johnson City Police Department officers arrested an Elizabethton woman Sunday on theft, forgery and speeding charges.

According to a JCPD news release, officers pulled over Angela Ashley, 36, 171 Ollie Collins Road, on Feb. 20 at the intersection of West Walnut Street and University Parkway for speeding.

Officers said during the traffic stop, Ashley gave her sister’s identity in place of her own to avoid arrest for the speeding offense.

According to the release, Ashley’s sister contacted officers that she had gotten a letter telling her that she had failed to satisfy a citation, which she had never received.

Ashley’s sister reportedly told officers that Ashley had used her information in the past.

Following an investigation, Ashley was arrested and charged with identity theft, forgery speeding, driving on a suspended license and failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

She was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she was being held on $12,000 bond pending her arraignment in Sessions Court.
