Community rallies to stop move of Franklin Co. principal

LOUISBURG, N.C. -

Parents, students and teachers protested a decision Monday to move a middle school principal to another school.

A dozen or so people armed with signs stood outside a planned school board meeting in Franklin County to protest the move of Novella Brown.

The group said Brown is being moved from Terrell Lane Middle School to an alternative school, but they want her to stay.

"I know when I was in school, I never wanted to see the principal. I tried to avoid the principal. I never saw the principal," said Tim Gupton, who protested Brown's move.

"These students go to Terrell Lane looking to see Mrs. Brown. They go to baseball games looking to see Mrs. Brown. They go into the community looking to see Mrs. Brown. And she's there for them."

School board members won't comment on why Brown is being moved, citing personnel issue.
