Teachers get creative to fund classroom needs

Posted: Updated:
A Havelock teacher is taking action when it comes to getting money for her classroom.

Sixth grade math teacher, Rosemary Steinman, says started writing and grants to help her buy technology for her classroom. Steinman says as grants become more competitive, she started researching other ways to purchase her classroom needs.

"I've looked into different ways of getting resources funded for my room. I came across a site www.donorschoose.org a few years ago that I have used multiple times," said Steinman.

Steinman has used the money she’s raised to buy classroom items like IPods, school supplies, and GPS systems.

"With the GPS units my students do geocaching. They have to go here and here and here to make sure that they get all of their answers; but, at the same time it's kind of testing them, without them knowing, how to graph," said Steinman.

Steinman has raised more than $5900 using fundraising websites.

Steinman is currently raising money for a HD projector.
