Newport man jailed for sex offense

BEAUFORT, N.C. -  A Newport man is accused of statutory rape.

Deputies say they arrested 22-year-old Marcel Jenkins for statutory rape with a fifteen year old girl who was known to him. He was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $100,000.00 bond. 

Back in 2012, Jenkins was charged with the statutory rape of a 13 year old girl who was known to him. In 2013 Jenkins He pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted felony child abuse and one count of crimes against nature in 2013 and given a suspended sentenced of 38 to 64 months and placed on three years of supervised probation. Jenkins also faces numerous probation violations, including committing fraud on a drug screen and having contact with an eleven year old girl. 

He's due in court Monday.
