RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police arrested a 20-year-old in the stabbing death of a teenager shortly after the conclusion of the downtown Independence Day celebration.

The stabbing occurred at the intersection of S. Wilmington and E. Cabarrus streets.

"A bunch of kids came out from the opening of the building (Bank of America)," an eyewitness told WNCN. "One of the kids turned around and yelled and looked down and saw a young man laying in the street over there."

Police identified the victim as 16-year-old Tahje Alexander Mials.

Jarome Lee Gardner, 20, was arrested without incident Saturday morning, Raleigh police said. Gardner was charged with murder, authorities said.

Police said the stabbing was not a random crime.
