Driver who sped from cops on I-26 dies in wreck

Posted: Updated:
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man fleeing from state troopers on Interstate 26 has caused a wreck that killed him and injured two people in another car on Henderson County.

Investigators said the chase began Wednesday night when a trooper tried to pull over a driver for speeding on I-26.

Troopers say the driver sped off and led officers on a chase that eventually went off the interstate and on to surface roads in Hendersonville.

Authorities say the chase ended when the driver slammed into a pickup truck. The driver died. His name has not been released.

Troopers say the two people in the pickup were hurt and taken to the hospital.
