Metro PD Steps Up Security for 4th of July

DOWNTOWN SAVANNAH -

As red, white and blue pride takes over Downtown Savannah, hoards of people will take to the streets to enjoy their holiday weekend.

But with those extra people around, the Savannah Chatham Metro Police are forced to increase their presence to keep everyone having fun while still keeping them safe.

"We've done this before and we feel that we're very prepared," says Captain Carl Ramey.

As you walk down River Street these next few days, groups of officers can be found doing everything from ushering people across streets to providing directions for lost tourists.

But Ramey says no matter how much law enforcement is around, it's impossible to predict the number of people who will show up to celebrate.

"It's very difficult to predict that but we're prepared for very large numbers."

If you missed Friday's activities, there will still be plenty more live entertainment and activities throughout the rest of the weekend.
