UVa-Wise announces men's basketball recruiting class

Wise, VA - Head Coach Blake Mellinger and his staff announced the signing of five recruits for the 2014-2015 season.  Dyonta Bizzle-Brown, Camryn Fort, Aaron Meredith, Philip Owens II and Dimitri Sousa have all signed to play collegiately at UVa-Wise starting this winter.

Bizzle-Brown is a 6’8”, 185 pound forward from Hardin Valley Academy. An all-district and all-tournament honoree as a senior, he was also the team’s most efficient player and he set the school record for most dunks in a career.  Bizzle-Brown is the son of Twanita Brown.

Fort is a 6’4”, 160 pound shooting guard from Genesis Academy. As a junior, he averaged 8.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Off the court, he was elected to student council where he serves as treasurer. He is the son of Keith and Wanda Fort.

A 6’7”, 230 pound forward Aaron Meredith played forward for Coach Mike Donovan at Grandby High School.  A second-team all-district selection, Meredith is the son of Leeiron Meredith and Marquita Fulford.

Owens II is a 5’11”, 178 pound point guard from Bishop Sullivan High. As a senior, he was an all-academic honoree, the Atlantic Shores Tournament MVP and a first team all-TCIS selection.  He is the son of Philip Sr. and Melissa Owens.

Sousa is a 6’6”, 220 pound small forward from Brazil. He spent four seasons in Italy playing for a professional development program. Sousa chose to make the transition to American Basketball, where he spent the last year at Massanutten Military Academy. He is the son of Marcelo and Helena Sousa.
