COLUMBUS, GA -
The American Aces little team put on a show last week in winning the Tommy Smith major boys baseball championship.
The Tommy Smith Tournament of Champions title didn’t come easy for the American Aces.
After jumping out to what they thought was a comfortable lead, their opponent, the Peach Lions came roaring back make the game close.
But then the aces bats got hot with Davis Livingston and Hunter Poe getting on base.
That set the stage for Brandon Gates who drove in the winning runs.
“They first walked Hunter Poe. Coach told me they were saying I couldn’t hit. So, I got up there and knocked in the winning run. It felt great,” said shortstop Brandon Gates.
“He was just telling me to put the ball in play. I knew if I got on base then Hunter could knock me in,” said pitcher Davis Livingston.
“I just got walked and Brand drove us in. It felt pretty good to touch home plate,” said centerfielder Hunter Poe.
American Aces head coach Scott Livingston was pleased with the big win and especially pleased with how his team dealt with the pressure of battling in a tight game situation.
“It’s a great group of kids. They were focused all year from the first practice. They really bought in to what we were trying to do as coaches and trying to teach them,” Livingston said. “They played hard every game. They gelled, and had great attitudes, great parents; that is really important for a successful team in little league.”
“For some of these players, summer baseball isn’t over. Most of them have been selected to play on an all star team.”
Meanwhile the baseball season is not quite over for these players. You see most of them will be selected to play on an all-star team.
“They’re getting ready to play at the district tournament at Pioneer in a couple of weeks. They’re working hard right now doing that. They kind of all went in different directions. We are still in touch and supporting each other as well as those all star teams,” Livingston said.
And so we salute the American Aces player’s coaches and parents, Tommy Smith tournament champions and our Headquarter Nissan athletes of the week.
