News 3 Neighbors: Wounded Warrior Joe Frazier

Posted: Updated:
In my latest News 3 Neighbors segment, I came across a prime example of a neighbor helping a neighbor.  The beneficiary was a wounded warrior and his family.

The day a Rooms To Go truck pulled up in front of his house was a God-send for Phenix City resident Joe Frazier.  He and his family are the recipients of three rooms of brand new furniture thanks to a neighbor who lives down the street, Reverend Johnnie Robinson.  He is also the president of the Phenix City-Russell County NAACP.  In that capacity Robinson reached out to a friend whose organization has an arrangement with Rooms To Go to help wounded warriors.

Robinson says, "We reached out to many families.  The Frazier family met the qualifications and allowed us to come in and do an inspection.  They qualified for it and we went to work."

Joe Frazier is a veteran who has served in the Alabama National Guard for over 20 years.  He was deployed to Iraq in 2005.  Frazier says, "I was a supply sergeant for the 120th out of Phenix City.  I handled all of the logistics as far as supplies, vehicles."

Frazier had to have double hernia surgery in Kuwait three months before the end of his tour.  Frazier recalls, "Coming home was pretty good.  I got home and surprised my little boy at school.  The big surprise...he had his uniform on, too (that day)."

Frazier and his family received two rooms of bedroom furniture and some living room furnishings.  "Makes things easier for me to know that I can lay down in a bed that won't fall through on me," says Frazier.  "I thank Pastor Johnnie for thinking about me.  If you do good to some people, they treat you back good, and that's what I try to live by."

Pastor Johnnie says the donation is a reflection of his line of work.  "The mantra for social work is...connecting people to resources, and I think that's what we did here.  We connected the Frazier family to some great resources."
