NC budget gets more scrutiny in House committees

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. - A proposed budget for North Carolina government written by House Republicans is getting more scrutiny as it works its way through the chamber's two most important committees.

The $21 billion spending plan will be debated Wednesday by the House finance and appropriations committees before reaching the House floor later in the week.

The Senate two weeks ago approved its spending blueprint to adjust the second year of the two-year budget approved last summer.

The House and Senate disagree on provisions involving Medicaid reform, teacher assistants and the State Crime Lab. The House is betting on more lottery revenues to help pay for teacher salary increases.

The two chambers will work out differences to get a final budget on Gov. Pat McCrory's desk by the end of June.
