Teen Drowns in Ohoopee River

Posted: Updated:
Tattnall County - On Monday, a dive team pulled the body of 13-year-old D'Marco Lee Castro out of a Tattnall County river after he apparently drowned.

Tattnall County EMA Deputy Director Tommy Dubberly says the Castro fell into the banks of the Ohoopee River around two p.m.

Witnesses said he went into the water, went under and never came back up.

The search was centered around an area at the end of a dirt road on Jarriel's Bridge Road off of Lynntown Road in Collins.

The Appling County Dive Team found Castro, not far from where he fell in.

"We had hopes for a better outcome," Dubberly said.

Castro was found around 8:30 p.m.

The Wayne County Dive Team and Tattnall County authorities also helped in the search.
