CLAYTON, N.C. -

A 19-year-old Wendell girl was killed Thursday when the vehicle she was riding in ran off the road and struck a utility pole.

Authorities said Jasmine Villalobos of 1819 Lake Wendell Road in Wendell was driving a 2002 Toyota north on Buffalo Road in Johnston County. Jasmine Villalobos overcorrected after she drifted onto the shoulder and crossed the center line.

Jasmine Villalobos then overcorrected again and ran off the side of northbound Buffalo Road, authorities said. The vehicle hit a ditch and then a utility pole.

Vicky Villalobos, 19, was killed during the collision, authorities said. She was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Jasmine Villalobos was taken to WakeMed to be treated for serious injuries, authorities said.

A third person, Miguel Parra-Tapia, 23, was a rear passenger in the vehicle. He was transported to WakeMed for treatment of injuries sustained during the accident, authorities said.

Charges are pending in the incident.
