At last! Nose spray that beats hay fever with NO side effects.
It's a powder that you spray up the nose, and it's supposed to cut any hay fever symptoms. The powder is made of cellulose, which is the main component of plant cell walls. It works by forming a gel that acts as a barrier against pollen.
It's called nasaleze.
In a recent trial, the research found that the powder halved hay fever symptoms, and it was just a good as nasal steroids or oral antihistamines. But the plus of the powder... there are no side effects.
Hay fever affects up to one in five people at some point in their life. Symptoms include sneezing, a runny nose, and itchy eyes. It's all usually triggered by an allergic reaction to pollen.
Now if your symptoms are bad enough you may take an antihistamine or even corticosteroids. But for many, there are side effects including drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision... and long term use has been linked to an increased risk of health problems, including weight gain and muscle weakness.
But according to researchers, this new powder has a 'complete absence of significant adverse effects.'
This new nose spray is available over the counter.
A side note... many scientists are choosing nasal sprays to replace pills for brain diseases such as Alzheimer's. They believe that spraying medication up the nose provides a quicker route to the brain. Also, lower doses would be needed, and this would lead to fewer side effects.
