High school sweethearts from Four Oaks celebrate 70 years of marriage

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Two high school sweethearts are celebrating seven decades of marriage.

Dorothy and J.R. Blackmon, of Four Oaks, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Monday night with a limo ride and a dinner at Raleigh's Angus Barn restaurant. The pair met in high school in Four Oaks and say they've never once thought about splitting up.

The Blackmons said the secret to making it 70 years is pretty simple.

"Hard work and clean living. That’s what I say, " J.R. Blackmon said.

"Well, it's give and take. You know that," Dorothy Blackmon said. "We just love each other very much and we've been very blessed."

The Angus Barn, which has been open for 54 years, said it has had couples in to celebrate 50 or even 60 years of marriage, but never 70 years.
