SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University softball squad finished the 2014 season ranked No. 5 with the release of the NFCA's final 2014 Top 25 Coaches' Poll over the weekend. The Pirates (36-15) advanced to the NCAA DII Softball Championships for a second straight season, winning the Southeast Super Regional by taking two of three games from North Georgia, then going 1-2 at the Championships in Salem, Va. Armstrong defeated West Chester, 5-1, before falling to eventual national champion West Texas A&M, 6-5, and Southeastern Oklahoma, 9-3. West Texas A&M went unbeaten in Salem and captured the school's first national title, finishing the season as the unanimous No. 1-ranked team in the country. Valdosta State finished the year ranked No. 2, with Dixie State coming in at No. 3 and Southeastern Oklahoma coming in at No. 4 just ahead of the Pirates.
