WILMINGTON, N.C. - An 18-year-old man is accused of beating his girlfriend almost to death after a fight over tangled fishing lines. Michael Hutton is charged with first-degree attempted murder. His 17-year-old girlfriend Hannah Connaway is hospitalized in a medically-induced coma.  Police say Hutton beat her, dragged her and then started choking her Friday night after the couple had an argument because of some fishing lines Hutton couldn’t get untangled.

A 911 call from Connaway’s friend indicated Connaway couldn't walk and was bleeding.

It took place at Hutton's home on Northwoods Drive when his parents were not home. The friend tried to help but she said he locked her out of the house. Police say the fight eventually moved to the front yard where Hutton reportedly choked Connaway until she passed out.

His bond was set at $1 million bond and if convicted he could get life in prison.
