Orange County, FL - Police in Apopka, Florida busted a large dog fighting ring Tuesday after receiving tips that dog fighting was taking place.

When police arrived, an active dog fight was allegedly taking place in the backyard of  the home. Multiple vehicles were parked along the road and a large crowd of people was gathered in the yard, police say.

After securing most people involved, officers separated the dogs that were fighting.

Multiple cages were found in the yard containing chickens, a rabbit, a raccoon, and more than 10 dogs. According to police, all the dogs appeared to have old as well as new injuries consistent with dog fights.

A mother dog and her new born puppies were among the animals rescued by Orange County Animal Control.

A raccoon carcass was found in the yard. Police say these are used to bait the dogs during the fight.

A total of 26 people were arrested for attending the fighting or baiting of animals.
