Mother of Marine killed in Afghanistan sews bears made from the combat uniforms of the fallen

Posted: Updated:
Richmond Hill, GA - This Memorial Day weekend, Americans across the country are finding ways to honor those who served, including one very special mother.

When Lisa Freeman's son was killed in combat in Afghanistan, she says she wouldn't allow herself to go to a dark place.

Instead, she started sewing and focused on helping others.

She sits and sews in a tiny upstairs room in a grand house on the Georgia coast. Freeman says it makes her think about her son, a Marine captain, who was only in Afghanistan for 9 days when he was killed.

Freeman uses material from combat uniforms to make comforting bears for families who’ve lost a loved one in combat.
