Savannah Police Officer Rescues Dog Trapped Over Highway

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department says an animal control officer sacrificed his lunch on Thursday to rescue a small mixed-breed dog, who somehow had trapped herself on a bridge support 30 feet over an interstate.

Police say traffic was halted on I-516 at Highway 25 to allow two animal control officers to capture the dog. Officer Larry Rountree offered his assistance by dropping a sandwich he had purchased for lunch onto the support, in an effort to lure the dog out; and it worked!

The dog, now named Zaxby after the sandwich, will be placed for adoption after a five-day medical evaluation... Ofc. Rountree allowed her to finish the sandwich.
