BEAUFORT, N.C. - “Operation Pill Crusher” landed 24 people behind bars in Carteret County.

Sheriff Asa Buck and District Attorney Scott Thomas held a news conference Thursday, May 15th to report on the undercover drug operation called “Operation Pill Crusher.”

The operation was an effort to target criminal suspects who have been engaged in the illegal sales and diversion of prescription medication and other illegal drugs in Carteret County.

Detectives conducted hundreds of controlled purchases from over 100 drug dealers operating in Carteret County over the past several months.

Charges ranged from possession of marijuana to manufacturing methamphetamine.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office worked in coordination with D.A. Scott Thomas’ office reviewing criminal histories and prior criminal activity on the targeted suspects. Police say many of the targeted offenders have extensive criminal records as well as prior drug conviction and previous probationary sentences.

Sheriff Asa Buck said the arrests are just the beginning and over the next several weeks a significant number of additional arrests will be made.

At the press conference, Sheriff Buck commended his detectives and ADA David Spence. Buck said, “I am very proud of the hard work our detectives and the District Attorney’s office in the coordination of this operation and the prosecution of these criminal drug offenders.”
