COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Columbus police say a man was shot multiple times while walking into his northeast Columbus home early Wednesday morning.

Officers and medic personnel were called to a home located in the 1600 block of Sugarmaple Court, near Karl Road, at about 1:20 a.m.

Columbus police officers tell NBC4, 20-year-old Chinedu Akatobi was walking up to his front door after dropping off a friend when he was shot by someone standing in the front yard of his home.

The victim was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds to the side, arm and leg. He was later transferred to the ICU and is expected to survive.

Detectives say the suspect approached the victim and fired several rounds. The suspect then ran to a waiting vehicle that fled in an eastbound direction from the scene.

There were no witnesses to the shooting but detectives say a number of people in the area say they saw a gold Chevy Malibu with tinted windows in the area at the time of the shooting. The vehicle has not been officially connected to the investigation at this time.

Police are trying to determine what the motive was for the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact Columbus police at 614-645-4545.
