Job Watch: Opelika company hiring 150 new employees

Posted: Updated:
OPELIKA, Ala. - An Opelika Internet company is adding 150 new jobs, the company announced Wednesday.

Afni Incorporated is a company that provides live consumer chat support on various internet shopping and customer service web sites. They have several clients, including a Fortune 500 company. Their recent success has allowed them to expand.

“As with any company it's fantastic to be able to grow and expand our business and it just speaks to the good job that we've done here locally for our clients and it also shows our support for the Opelika community,” said Vincent Jackson, Afni’s Director of Operations.

They currently employ about 500 people and are looking to reach 650. Afni officials say you don't necessarily have to be tech-savvy, what they're really looking for are candidates who enjoy helping others.

Afni, along with 20 other local employers, will be at the Goodwill Career Center in Midtown for a job fair on Thursday, May 8th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. EDT.

The company will also hold a "hiring party" on Monday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT at their Opelika office. It is located at 1000 Jeter Avenue. Those interested are encouraged to apply before the event at AfniCareers.com and come prepared for an on-site interview.

Those interested may also apply online anytime or in person at Afni Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. CDT. They are open until 7 p.m. CDT on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The company offers flexible scheduling and even the opportunity to work from home. They employ people from all over the Chattahoochee Valley -- including employees from Auburn, Phenix City and Columbus. They also employ students and recent graduates.

Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller says new jobs mean growth for the area's economy.

"These jobs allow folks to get money in their pockets that they can use to go shopping or buy something, that's a good thing. That's good for our merchants, good for our community, good for our area and good for the state of Alabama,” said Mayor Fuller.
