Durham Police make another arrest, but officer's puppy still missing

DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham Police have charged another teen in the case of where the home of a Durham Police officer was robbed, including of his puppy.

The Durham Police are now offering a $350 reward for the dog.

Investigators have charged Jorge Flores Benitez, 19, of Wendell with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and larceny of a dog in connection with this case. Benitez is also charged with committing a burglary March 26 on Glengary Court.

Anyone with information about the puppy is asked to call (919) 402-3809.

On May 1, Durham Police arrested Christopher Reina, 18, of Broad Street and charged him with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, felony larceny of a dog, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen goods.

Investigators recovered most of the police equipment belonging to the officer but there are a few uniform shirts still missing.

Police said Reina told them he gave the puppy to an unknown family in the parking lot of Beauty World in the 1400 block of Avondale Drive.

Durham Police said the puppy takes prescribed medication.

The officer’s home was robbed, and the thieves took police uniforms, a Taser and other law enforcement items in addition to the dog.
