    State inspectors found rodents or roaches and temporarily closed six Tampa Bay eateries on our list of restaurants with the most violations from April 7 to 13, 2014.
    State inspectors found rodents or roaches and temporarily closed six Tampa Bay eateries on our list of restaurants with the most violations from April 7 to 13, 2014.

State inspectors temporarily closed eight Tampa Bay eateries for problems with rodents, roaches and malfunctioning refrigerators during the week of April 21-27.

Some of the closures are also included in this week's list of restaurants with the most violations.

We've listed the restaurants that were closed below, along with details about what inspectors say they found.

1) Winter Haven Suites and Conference Center at 1150 3rd St. SW in Winter Haven

April 23: Restaurant temporarily closed with 18 violations 

  • Dead rodent in trap under stockroom shelf.
  • Live rodent on top of stock shelf. Rodent was caught in a trap in a stockroom.
  • Three quarts of strawberries mold-like growth.
  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 30 - 40 dried rodent droppings under stock shelves. Three semi- fresh droppings on top of cans of food. 10-15 fresh and dried dropping on stock shelves. 10 dried droppings in old refrigerator equipment on cook's line. Several droppings behind cooking equipment on cook's line.
  • Rodent rub marks were present on the ceiling in a stockroom.
  • Food debris was accumulated on the kitchen floor.

April 24: Restaurant reopened after meeting inspection standards with 0 violations

2) Little Pepperoni at 5600 66th St. N. in St. Petersburg

April 23: Restaurant temporarily closed with 14 violations

  • Dead roaches were found on premises. Two dead roaches were under a prep table next to the deep fryer. Four dead roaches were on the floor by the water heater. Three dead roaches were on top of the water heater. Two dead roaches were on the floor and two dead roaches were on the back of a freezer. One dead roach was underneath a cutting board. 20 dead roaches were on the floor.
  • Flammables were stored near a source of ignition. Cardboard and fabric items were stored on top of a gas water heater.
  • More than 20 live roaches were found. 19 live roaches were found on unused cast iron pans stored in oven. One live roach was inside a can opener table mount on a table where dough was being prepared. One live roach was on the floor near a water heater. One live roach was on the floor behind a chest freezer. One live roach was above a sink. One live roach was on a prep table at the coffee pot station. One live roach was on a counter near the dining room.
  • Food contact surfaces were encrusted with grease and/or soil deposits.

April 24: Restaurant reopened after meeting inspection standards with 5 violations

3) Manna from Heaven Wings & Soul Food at 1789 34th St. S. in St. Petersburg

April 24: Restaurant temporarily closed with 11 violations

  • Small flying insects were found in the dish area, at a prep area, and a front counter area.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 35 live roaches found in kitchen prep area between dish and front hot hold area. 14 live roaches found in dish area.
  • Stop Sale issued due to food not being in a wholesome, sound condition: 4 lbs of chicken in a walk-in cooler.
  • Potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41 degrees: rice at 47°, cooked cabbage at 46°, raw chicken at 46°, milk at 53°, fish at 51°, raw sausage at 52°.
  • Food debris was accumulated on the kitchen floor.

April 25: Restaurant reopened with 2 violations, however a follow-up inspection is required

4) Pete's Restaurant Breakfast and Lunch at 2140 Main St. in Dunedin

April 24: Restaurant temporarily closed with 15 violations

  • Dead roaches on premises. Five dead roaches under back kitchen hand sink. One dead roach under the dish machine. Two dead roaches on the floor near the dish machine. One dead roach on a dish on a storage shelf near the dish machine. Two dead roaches on the floor near a walk-in cooler. Two dead roaches on the gaskets of the walk-in cooler.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. One live roach on a food prep cart. 10 live roaches were behind a wall in the back kitchen. Three live roaches were on a detergent box near a hand sink. One live roach was inside the plastic wrap of tin pans. One live roach was on a wall by the back kitchen hand sink.
  • Toxic substance/chemical stored by containers. Medicine was stored next to pitchers inside a cabinet.

April 25: Restaurant reopened after meeting inspection standards with 0 violations

5) Bravo Bravo at 11311 N. Nebraska Ave. in Tampa

April 24: Restaurant temporarily closed with 26 violations

  • Dead roaches on premises. 11 under a counter. One by the ice cream cooler.
  • Produce with mold-like growth: apple.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Three on a counter by the sandwich press. Two on the floor by a refrigerator. Three under a refrigerator. Two on the floor by an ice cream machine. One on the floor by a cash register. Two on a sticky trap under a counter. Two in a storage area by a microwave. Three under a microwave in dry storage. One live roach in a bag with a blender in storage area. One live roach in a cabinet under a  microwave. One live roach on food storage shelving. Two live roaches on prep table shelving. One live roach in a hole in the security system box. One live roach on a fire alarm box.
  • Roach excrement and/or droppings present. 100 roach droppings in cabinets by ice cream cooler. 20 roach droppings in cabinet by slush machine. 30 roach droppings by stand-up freezer wall. 50 roach droppings on wall by microwaves on prep table.

State inspectors returned to the restaurant on April 25, April 30, and May 2, but left the restaurant closed because problems had not been fixed. On May 2, state inspectors visited the restaurant a second time and reopened it after the restaurant met inspection standards with 16 violations, however a follow-up inspection is required.

6) Wildwood Cafe at 1200 28 St. S. in St. Petersburg

April 24: Restaurant temporarily closed with 8 violations

  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 13 live roaches in the dish area. 8 live roaches on a food prep table and under a small refrigerator in the kitchen beside a stove.
  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Too many rodent droppings to count, under prep table and under small refrigerator beside stove. Old, dry droppings under front register area, too many to count.

April 25: Restaurant reopened after meeting inspection standards with 2 violations

7) Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme at 391 34th St. N. in St. Petersburg

April 24: Restaurant temporarily closed with 22 violations

  • Food stored in a location that is exposed to splash. Cabbage and bagged onions were under a prep table where raw meat was being prepped. Meat juices were dripping off of the prep table.
  • Live, small flying insects in food preparation area: in and around onions and cabbage in prep area, too many to count.
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 26 live roaches found inside a soap dispensing machine in dish area. 11 live roaches found under and around dish machine in the dish area. 14 live roaches found on shelving above a 3-compartment sink.
  • Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 22 old, dry rodent droppings found under prep tables and under rack of canned goods beside the emergency exit.

On April 25, state inspectors returned but the restaurant had not fixed the problems, so it remained closed. Later on April 25, inspectors returned and reopened the restaurant after it met inspection standards with 1 violation.

8) Cici's Pizza at 5178 East Bay Dr. in Clearwater

April 25: Restaurant temporarily closed with 23 violations 

  • All potentially hazardous foods in reach-in cooler held at greater than 41 degrees: cheese 46°, cheese 56°, beef 48°, sausage 48°, ham 46°.
  • All potentially hazardous foods in walk-in cooler held at greater than 41 degrees: lettuce 47°, lettuce 46°, cheese 45°, pizza sauce 46°.
  • Reach-in cooler not maintaining potentially hazardous food at proper temperatures. Do not store potentially hazardous food in this unit until the unit is capable of maintaining foods at 41 degrees or colder.
  • Walk-in cooler not maintaining potentially hazardous food at proper temperatures. Do not store potentially hazardous food in this unit until the unit is capable of maintaining foods at 41 degrees or colder.

As of May 2, the restaurant is listed as "closed" on the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation website.
