Two SC teens going for gold in 2020 thanks to boxing club

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Boxing Club offers an after school program to keep kids out of trouble and help them chase their dreams.  Now two teens are poised to compete for Olympic gold.

It's more than teaching kids to box it exercises their minds as well.  Homework help is offered and schoolwork always comes first.
Shakir Robinson started the now-flourishing program with the help of his mother who is a former school board member.

Khalid Johnson is 14 and he's training to be an Olympian in 2020.
He's not the only one. Ernie Cuevas, also 14, wants to do the same. They say the discipline they're learning in the ring helps with the rest of their lives as well.  Khalid says the program has helped him focus in the classroom, especially in science class, one of his hardest classes.

Lamar "Kidfire" Parks, the former number one middleweight champion in the world lives in Greenville. Ernie's even adopted Parks' nickname and calls himself Ernie 'Lil Kidfire' Cuevas."
