Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is offering tips to homeowners who may be faced with property damage after severe weather crosses the state.
Hudgens says standard homeowner's insurance policies usually cover damage from high winds and tornadoes, but they don't cover damage from flooding. Hudgens says a separate policy must be purchased through the National Flood Insurance Program.
Hudgens says standard mobile home policies can usually cover flood damage, and consumers should double check their policies.
The commissioner says homeowners should make a list of furniture and valuables, and keep photographs of them in case proof of lost valuables is needed for an insurance claim.
