SCAD Equestrian Wins 2014 ANRC National Championship

The American National Riding Commission (ANRC) is a four phase postseason competition that takes place after the regular season’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) shows take place.  In the ANRC event the coaches select their best horse and rider combinations to take part.  It is a once a year event.  This championship competition is outside of the IHSA competition format.  Sweet Briar College in Virginia hosted the National ANRC Championship event that took place this past weekend, April 23-27.

As is SCAD’s custom it brought a strong team of riders to the ANRC Championships.  And as they demonstrated in their competitions all season the Bees proved once again to be an excellent team at this year’s event.  They showed their winning ways as they finished as the 2014 National Champion ANRC Team.

SCAD also had a number of individual accolades as sophomore Ryan Genn was selected as the National Individual Champion.  In addition, sophomore Michael Kocher finished the championship as the Overall Reserve National Champion.

In the Novice Division, Junior Lindsay Baker finished as the Overall Novice Division National Champion and the SCAD Novice ANRC Team finished as Reserve National Champions.

Next up for the SCAD Equestrian Team is the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships.  On April 5 the SCAD Equestrian won the IHSA Zone Finals, earning its fourth straight trip to the IHSA National Championships, May 1-4, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  This year, however, the Bees will enter the national championship for the first time as the champion team.
