SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford Terriers scored two runs in the seventh and held on to win the series over the Georgia Southern Eagles with a 6-4 victory at Russell C. King Field.

A pair of hits from Matt Ramsay and James Plaisted led off the seventh inning for Wofford (23-20, 5-11), and Eric Alonzo walked two more before a fielding error by the catcher Chase Griffin on a failed putout attempt led to two runs and broke a 4-4 tie.

The runs handed Eric Eck his first win of the season. Eck (1-2) allowed three runs on three hits and surrendered a 4-1 lead in the seventh inning.

Georgia Southern (27-18, 9-11) rallied from a three-run deficit and tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh on Ben Morgan's double. Morgan was later thrown out at the plate to end the inning after the ball got away from the catcher Ramsay, but Ramsay was able to get back to the plate in time to tag out Morgan.

Hunter Thomas led off the seventh with a pinch hit single and quickly reached second base on a bunt single by Josh Black. Kody Adams walked to load the bases before Morgan laced a ball into the left field gap for a three RBI double.

Josh Wirsu pitched into the seventh inning for the Eagles but was tagged with the loss allowing a run. Wirsu (8-3) allowed six hits, five runs, one earned run, two walks and struck out four batters on 102 pitches.

The Eagles had opportunities in both the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game but left a combined five base runners stranded.

Ryan Cleveland and Cal Baker drew two-out walks in the eighth inning before Black was called out on strikes to end the frame. GSU drew two walks, Morgan singled to load the bases in the ninth inning but a fly out by Garren Palmer ended the game.

Will Stillman threw 1.1 scoreless frames to record his third save of the season. Stillman (3) walked two batters and struck out two on 34 pitches.

Both teams finished with nine hits, but the Eagles committed five errors which led to five unearned runs. Morgan led GSU with three hits, while Garren Palmer finished with a pair of doubles. Conor Clancey went three for three with a RBI and a run scored for Wofford.

Baseball concludes the series tomorrow with a 1 pm contest. The game can be heard on the Georgia Southern Radio Network and online at gseagles.com.
