Ridgeland Fire Department Raises Money for Nonprofit in Annual 5K

Ridgeland, SC - Ridgeland runners put rubber to the asphalt in the fire department's annual 5k to raise money for the Jasper County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs on Saturday morning.

About 100 runners and walkers took off through the streets of downtown Ridgeland in support of the nonprofit to help those with special needs. This is the fire department's second year putting on the run. They say it's all part of their service to the neighborhood.

"This is a good group of folks. They have different types of funding, and we're trying to augment those with our 5k, and also give back to the community as the fire department. It supports us so much," Captain Joey Rowell says.

As part of a newer community tradition, Captain Rowell hopes to see an even greater turn out next year.
