Hundreds Of Pills Collected During Prescription Drug Take Back In Chatham Co.

Posted: Updated:
CHATHAM COUNTY, GA - Hundreds of pills and prescriptions in Chatham County won't be falling into the wrong hands. People were able to get rid of their unwanted or expired medications Saturday as part of Prescription Drug Take Back.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to offer this free service.

The DEA said the rate of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. is alarmingly high.

"It has become a major problem in recent years. They are actually starting to find more people dying of overdose from prescription abuse than car accidents,” said Danielle Sweet with the DEA.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office does have a disposable box at their office year round. The next Prescription Drug Take Back event will be held in October.
