Saluting a Savannah Volunteer

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -
April is National Volunteer Month.
Called an inspiration for people of all ages, 71-year-old  Melonie Kinert is being recognized for her community service.
Kinert , one of 50  people across Georgia stands out for volunteerism.
She recently received the 2014 Home Instead Senior Care network’s Salute to Senior Service Award.
Kinert has spent countless hours hours supporting Islands Feral Cat Project.
She spends her time trapping cats so they can be spayed and neutered, as well as feeding them and helping to arrange for veterinary care when needed.
“Melonie represents so well the dedication and commitment that make senior volunteers such a value to their communities,” said Jeff Huber, president of Home Instead, Inc. “She has proven once again that age is meaningless when it comes to making a difference. So many charities, nonprofit organizations and faith communities could not do the work they are doing without selfless volunteers such as Melonie.”
Many of you may know Melonie Kinert.  She received the United Way’s 2013 Volunteer Recognition Award for her work with the feral cat population in Chatham County.
