UPDATE: Sex Offender Arrested in New Attack

Liberty County Sheriff's Office Detective Chris Reed says Carter has turned himself in.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office and Walthourville Police Department need your help tracking down a convicted sex offender now wanted for sexual assault.

The 22 year old victim told authorities she was walking along Carter Road while on the way to her grandmother's house around 3:30 this afternoon when she was attacked.

Authorities say they identified the suspect as 35 year old Roderick Dewayne Carter.

He is wanted for Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping and Attempted Rape in connection with today's attack, authorities said.

Carter is a registered sex offender in Liberty County.

He may have a scruffy beard and was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and black flip flops.

Carter is considered armed and dangerous and may have left the immediate area.

He also used a weapon during the assault, authorities said.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Carter spent time in prison for previous charges including Aggravated Assault, Statutory Rape and Robbery.

Those crimes took place in Bibb County in November of 1995.

He was paroled in August 2013.

Anyone with information on Carter's whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.

    The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, on Highway 21 in Beaufort. According to Sgt. Bob Beres, a 1998 Mercedes Benz ran off of the right side of the road and overturned.
