Twins joined at birth travel to meet Clearwater's famous dolphin

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) - The star of Dolphin Tale met two of her biggest fans Wednesday.

Hassan and Hussein traveled all the way from Ireland to meet Winter at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

The hit movie - about a friendship between a boy and a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap - put Winter and her prosthetic tale on the map. Winter's story has inspired millions of people from all over the world to travel great distances to meet her, especially people like Hassan and Hussein who've overcome life's obstacles like Winter.

The twins were born conjoined from the chest to pelvis and at 4-months old underwent life-saving surgery to separate them.

The boys, now 4-years old, have defied odds since inception. Most children born in this condition don't make it through the first 24 hours of life.

"When they watched the movie in the cinema I remember they said 'mommy, Winter is just like us,' and I remember wouldn't it be amazing if we could get them there," said their mother.

The twins both wear prosthetics, and the company that made theirs, Hanger Prosthetic in Orlando, made the trip to Clearwater possible. Coincidentally, Hanger also made Winter's tale and fitted her with a new one on Wednesday.

It was a dream come true for the twins who will head home soon with renewed inspiration and encouragement from local star, Winter.
