Auburn man charged in attempted theft of scooter

Posted: Updated:
An Auburn man faces theft charges after police say he was caught attempting to load a scooter into the bed of a pick-up truck.

Clarence Reese, 54, was arrested Saturday, April 19, 2014.  Police say the vehicle Reese was using was stopped on E. Drake Avenue near N. Gay Street. An investigation revealed the scooter, a Honda “Ruckus” valued at $2,000 had just been stolen from a residence in the 100 block of E. Drake Avenue.  Reese was immediately taken into custody by police on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation and subsequently charged with theft of property first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers located drug paraphernalia on his person.

The property was recovered and returned to the owner.  Reese was transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where his bond was set at $6,500.
