Tweetsie Trail project gets its own song

Posted: Updated:

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A bicycle and pedestrian trail linking Johnson City and Elizabethton now has its own song.

The Tweetsie Trail is being built on the abandoned ET&WNC rail line, formerly travelled by steam locomotives. The trains got the nickname "tweetsie" from local residents because of their shrill whistles.

The Johnson City Press reports (http://bit.ly/1piukF5 ) the Tweetsie Trail is on track to open on Labor Day weekend. The song will be used as a marketing tool for the Tweetsie Trail task force to bring in new donations to help complete the trail. It also is meant to inform the public about the 6-mile trail's history.

The new song is called "The Tweetsie We Rode" and is available on the website of musician Andy Curtis.
