McCrory Twitter account calls Masters jacket 'infamous'

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The green jacket given to the Masters golf champion has been called a great many things before, but probably never “infamous.”

On Sunday, though, the official Twitter account of North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory tweeted with pride that the patches on the green jackets were made in the Tar Heel State – and made double-bogey in the process.

“Great to see the patches on the infamous green jackets at @The_Masters are made in Weaverville, NC!” McCrory’s account tweeted.

But the green jackets aren’t exactly infamous – infamous, according to Merriam-Webster, means, “having a reputation of the worst kind; notoriously evil.”

Of course, the green jacket is one of the most coveted items in sports and goes to the winner of the Masters, held at Augusta National, each spring. Bubba Watson won Sunday.

McCrory’s tweet drew a quick response online, with one person tweeting, “can’t recall ever hearing Masters green jacket as ‘infamous.’”
