Columbus murder suspect arrested in California

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Marshals have arrested a Columbus man in California, the prime suspect in a south Columbus murder. Columbus Police named Reginald Jackson their suspect in the October 2013 shooting death of Dior Cheney, 23. Cheney was shot to death inside his car. A second victim was wounded.

The U.S. Marshals Service located Jackson in Hemet, California around 7:30 tonight. Acting on leads, a Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Jackson at a family member’s residence, without incident. Jackson was transported to the Riverside County Jail where he will remain until he is extradited back to Georgia.

In November 2013, the Columbus Police Department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Middle District of Georgia – Columbus Division in an effort to find Jackson, who had been avoiding capture since October 2013. On October 31, 2013, a state arrest warrant was issued charging Jackson with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault with intent to Murder.

On January 31, 2014, Deputy U.S. Marshals obtained a federal arrest warrant charging Jackson with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution.
