DNYD PL8S: Why personalized plates get denied in TN and VA

(WJHL) - It's not uncommon for people to express themselves with a personalized license plate and some of them are tough to figure out.

In fact, license plates must meet a certain standard. In both Tennessee and Virginia, the department of motor vehicles receive requests that will never make it to the open road. 

Tennessee denied nearly 1000 license plates because they did not meet the standard of decency set forth by the department of motor vehicles.
Virginia also has a long list of plates that were denied by a chosen group of DMV employees, who compare the request against the state’s rules for personalized license plates.
