More than $70,000 in stolen property recovered by Harris Co. Sheriff's Office

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON, Ga. - Friday night the Harris County Sheriff's Office and cooperating agencies recovered more than $70,000 in stolen property.

Trailers, a lawn mower and a Bobcat loader were among the items recovered.

Sheriff Mike Jolley says the investigation involved the cooperation of multiple agencies including Columbus police and LaGrange.

31-year-old Josh Calhoun was arrested when the property was seized in Valley, Alabama. Jolley says once in custody, Calhoun confessed to everything.

"He did admit, after his rights were advised to him, that he has been doing this for a while," says the sheriff, "stealing property and selling it just to make a living."

The owners of a motorcycle trailer stolen from Troup County were getting it back Monday morning. They say they never thought they would see the trailer again. It is worth about $3,000.

Calhoun is charged with multiple counts of theft in Harris County and other local jurisdictions. Sheriff Jolley says once the district attorney reviews the case, he will probably face at least a few years behind bars.
