Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Nearly 100 Birmingham-area students received a glimpse of their possible future engineering careers Thursday.

Alabama Power hosted its annual Engineering Day at the company’s headquarters in Birmingham.

The day is designed to recruit more high school students into the engineering field. Students toured several areas of Alabama Power including the storm center. They also participated in interactive workshops.

"E-Day marks an incredible opportunity for these students to learn and ask questions about the engineering profession from those working in the field," said Derrick Cherry, an Alabama Power senior engineer and E-day coordinator. "It has been exciting to watch it all come together with the help of our company volunteers, who have generously given of their time, whether they're escorting students and teachers or leading E-Day activities."

The students who participated in E-day were from Carver, Gadsden, Homewood, Huffman, Jackson-Olin, Oak Mountain, Parker, Pelham, Ramsay, Sylacauga, Thompson, Wenonah and Woodlawn High Schools.
