Martin Named SoCon Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Charlie Martin (LaGrange, Ga./LaGrange) has been named the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.

Martin shot a 2-under-par 211 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, Tenn., over the weekend, placing fourth in the 78-player field to match his best career finish. The junior opened with back-to-back rounds of 2-under-par 69 before finishing with a 2-over 73 for his fifth career top-10 outing. There were six players ranked in the top-50 nationally in the field with Martin finishing ahead of three golfers ranked in the top-15.

The 14-team field featured six top-50 squads, including No. 1 Alabama. Georgia Southern, ranked 48th nationally, finished fifth for its third straight top-5, topping No. 12 Florida State and No. 35 Kennesaw State in the final standings.

The weekly award is the first of Martin's career and the fourth for a GSU golfer this season. Classmate Scott Wolfes has won the award three times this spring.

Georgia Southern returns to action at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the National Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C., on April 20-22.
