SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad completed a Peach Belt Conference sweep of visiting North Georgia on Saturday, winning 5-1 and 9-7 in doubleheader action at Pirate Field.

The Pirates (19-14, 10-11 PBC) capture their second Peach Belt series sweep of the season, while North Georgia (15-20, 4-14 PBC) suffers a second series sweep of the year.

Armstrong used timely hitting and a nice pitching performance from junior Ryan Good to notch the game-one win over the Nighthawks. After North Georgia opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning on an Eason Spivey RBI double, the Pirates answered on Ryan Patterson's two-out, two-RBI single that put the Pirates up, 2-1.

The Pirates added a single run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice RBI by Lance, then tacked on two runs in the eighth inning on Dalton Johnson's two-out two-RBI double.

Good limited the Nighthawks to just one run, scattering eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, walking two while striking out two to improve to 4-3 on the season. Tyler Green hurled 3 1/3 innings of two-hit shutout ball, walking two while striking out two to notch his second save of the season.

Clint Spratlin (2-3) took the loss for the Nighthawks in game one, giving up six hits and three runs in seven innings of work, walking three while striking out three.

Patterson and Johnson each had two hits and two RBIs offensively to lead the Pirates, while Toorie's three hits led North Georgia.

In game two, the Pirates used a couple of big innings to build a 6-1 lead by the third inning. Patterson's two-RBI double and an RBI single by R.J. Dennard staked Armstrong to a 3-0 lead in the first, then after North Georgia got a solo home run from Tremayne Toorie in the top of the third inning, the Pirates tacked on three more in the bottom of the third on bases-loaded walks to Matt Wisniewski and Joey Lupus, as well as an RBI fielder's choice by Johnson.

North Georgia scored three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run blast by Andrew Gordon, then closed to within one run, 6-5, in the sixth on an RBI double by Kevin Krupp. Armstrong answered in the bottom of the sixth with Clayton Miller's two-run single, then added a solo run in the seventh on an RBI single by Johnson.

The Saints loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth against Nathan Ward (2-0), bringing the tying run to the plate, but with two runs in and the tying run on first, Ward struck out Ryan Raper to close out the victory.

Ward hurled 4 2/3 innings of four-hit relief, giving up three runs - two earned - while walking two and striking out three to earn the win for the Pirates.

Ben Peters (0-2) took the loss for the Nighthawks, giving up five hits and six runs in 2 1/3 innings of work, walking three while striking out one.

Dennard, Lance and Lupus all had two hits in the second game to lead the Pirates, while Toorie and Krupp had two hits apiece for the Nighthawks.

Armstrong returns to action on Tuesday, April 8, visiting Morehouse for 2:00 p.m. non-conference contest in Atlanta, Ga.
