Wake Co. authorities respond after man claims to have radioactive material

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Authorities said a man walked into Wake Forest Fire Station No. 5 Saturday afternoon and said he was carrying radioactive materials.

The scene was secured by law enforcement and emergency officials were called in to properly handle a hazmat situation, authorities said.

A Taser was used on the male suspect after he would not comply with members of the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.

"They called for immediate support," Wake Fore Fire Department Battalion Chief Bud Connelly said. "You never know."

Officials said the situation is now under control.
